DINOZOIC
The project
Dinozoic is a concept for an immersive mobile game set in a post-apocalyptic world where dinosaurs have overrun the planet following a catastrophic event caused by temporal experimentation. Players navigate an open-world sandbox using OpenStreetMap (OSM) as a basis for exploration, survival, and strategic alliances. The game combines elements of augmented reality, base-building, resource management, and cooperative play.
The game builds on existing OSM sandbox games while incorporating innovative gameplay mechanics and focuses around a loved and uncopyrighted lore firmly rooted in archaeology. The dino-assets are portrayed scientifically accurate.
Features
- Open World Exploration: Utilize OSM-generated environments with diverse habitats and dinosaur spawns.
- Base Building: Evolve and customize home bases and outposts for resource management and player safety.
- Expeditions: Gather resources, encounter dinosaurs, and collect research data crucial for technological advancements.
- Alliances: Create or join groups, collaborate on upgrades, and undertake expeditions collectively.
- Periodic Events: Introduce new dinosaur species and hybrid creatures, encouraging player engagement.
The story
The year is 2180, a century after an experiment gone wrong led to the emergence of wormholes connecting the modern world to the ancient Mesozoic era. These portals unleashed a cascade of prehistoric flora, fauna, and eventually, healthy and formidable dinosaurs into the contemporary world. This event decimated human civilization, plunging survivors into a struggle for existence amidst the dominance of these ancient creatures.
Players step into a world governed by dinosaurs, living in fortified stronghouses and forming alliances to pool resources and knowledge. The gameplay centers on navigating an open world generated from OSM data, allowing diverse habitats to spawn different species of dinosaurs. Players must strategically choose a building from the map to serve as their “Home base,” which evolves as they progress through various levels from a basic camp, to a formidable fortress.
While safety is found within the confines of the home base or assigned outposts, the game encourages players to embark on expeditions by foot. Expeditions involve resource gathering, encountering diverse dinosaurs, and collecting technological relics scattered across the world. Players navigate encounters with dinosaurs, acquiring research data to unlock defensive and offensive technologies necessary for survival and progression.
The game fosters cooperative play through alliances, allowing players to join or create groups with a starting limit of 5 members. Alliance upgrades, achieved by collective efforts and completing tasks, expand player limits and unlock various boosts, technologies, and defensive capabilities. Expeditions can be undertaken together, forming hunting parties to tackle tougher and rarer dinosaur species.
Dinozoic introduces periodic events to release new dinosaur species, engaging players in collective and individual tasks. These events unveil special hybrid species resulting from interactions between various dinosaur species across different historical periods.
Dinozoic promises a unique blend of survival, exploration, and cooperative gameplay within a world dominated by ancient creatures, providing players with a captivating and ever-evolving experience.
